March 16 Meeting | State Museum Demo + Lecture!

Our day at the TN State Museum got off to a great start! We had so many wonderful members so up to be part of our quilting demonstration and the museum guests were thrilled. We all worked on our WIPs while guests asked questions about our crafts and perused our many “show-and-tells” in different states of completion.

Following the demonstration, several members attended the lecture with Merikay Waldvogel and Bets Ramsey which detailed their careers and process of writing the book The Quilts of Tennessee as well as gave broad overview of the history of our local quilts and quilting culture! Following the lecture, we attended a special reception and got to meet the authors and have a short guided tour of the exhibit!

The Between the Layers exhibit was a true testament to the history and beauty of quilting, with so many of the designs being recognizable in modern quilting – we even got to see the inspiration behind our QuiltCon Charity Quilt entry “Modern Crown of Thorns” and read a little bit more into its history! The exhibit runs until July 7, and is well worth the FREE price of admission!
